ITM has implemented sustainable community development programs for the communities surrounding ITM’s mine sites. These programs are the Company’s commitment to maximizing local potentials in terms of economic, educational, socio-cultural, health, environmental and infrastructural development. At the same time, the Company has taken steps in disaster relief efforts by providing emergency response and aid to help alleviate people’s suffering and rebuild the economy.
Infrastructural Development
ITM and its subsidiaries have facilitated the construction of basic infrastructures in order to enhance the quality of life in the communities and provide them with better access to facilities in terms of mobility and utilities. ITM supported infrastructural development for the communities through the following activities:
Renovation of public facilities
ITM is concerned about the health and safety of people, especially those living in the communities near the mines, basic infrastructures were built and renovated. Among those included boreholes for clean water in Karangrejo, a swimming pool in Pelaihari, and river dredging systems in Swarangan.
Road maintenance
To ensure better road access for the communities around the mine sites, the Company reconstructed a total of 14 kilometers of roads around the Trubaindo and Indominco mines in 2018 and carried out road maintenance in Santan Ilir village in 2019. As a result, local residents were able to travel to and from the villages to perform economic activities more easily, which ultimately leads an improved economy of the villages.
