“The Power Green Camp 3” calls for youth nationwide to help “Prevent the Global Warming by Our Hands” during the October school bre

Banpu Public Company Limited in cooperation with Mahidol University’s Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, for the third consecutive year, will organize a youth environmental science camp “The Power Green Camp” during the October school break. “The Power Green Camp 3” is now open for applications from 11th grade students majoring in science nationwide until end of July.

“The Power Green Camp” is an envi-science camp aiming to help and guide young participants to learn more about systematic solution to environmental problems. Based on the “Envi-Science: Learning through Actions” concept, various field activities and theory lectures are organized to ensure that participants, who will become the future of the nation, embrace to their own the responsibility towards sustainable environmental conservation.

This year, “The Power Green Camp 3” will be held during 13 -19 October 2008 at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, Nakhon Pathom province. The theme for this year is to help “Prevent the Global Warming by Our Hands” so as to encourage the participants to learn more about and realize how the global warming seriously affects the environment and human beings. Throughout the one-week activity, participants will have a chance to attend a special lecture and workshops on global warming by environmental experts and also have hands-on experience in Mahidol University’s advanced environmental science lab. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to join a field trip to environmental learning sources and publicly exhibit their own environmental science projects, and many more.

“We have heard everyday from various media sources the news about global warming such as climate change, polar ice cap melting, higher sea water level, deadly cyclones and storms in many places around the world,” said Assistant Professor Sittipong Dilokwanich Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, the organizer of the camp. “These natural disasters are the effects from global warming, caused mainly by human activities. An effective way to help prevent the global warming is to reduce and stop any actions that are directly and indirectly involved with this situation. Educating our young people about the cause and prevention by using environment science will be more or less help reduce global warming we are facing at the moment. This idea, therefore, becomes a concept of The Power Green Camp 3, “Prevent the Global Warming by Our Hands.”
