To improve sustainable energy usage infrastructure to become Asia solar power hub

Bangkok – 1st September 2016 – Today Assoc.Prof.Dr. Komsan Maleesee, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) together with Ms. Somruedee Chaimongkol, Chief Executive Officer of Banpu Public Company Limited, Mr. Amorn Harnkam, General Manager of Techen Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited and Mr. Eric Wang, Regional Director of Huawei Technologies Company Limited signed three MOU agreements for solar power research and development projects to improve infrastructure for renewable energy. Signed at the Engineering Expo 2016, Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), the agreements have the unified goal to help boost Thailand as the Asia center of solar power.

This collaboration between the four entities originated from the shared vision and commitment to research and develop energy technology following dynamic technologies as well as the global energy trend, in response to the increasing power energy demand across Asia.

The MOU agreements represent collaborations between the four leading organizations, centered on research and development of solar power, in three primary aspects which include;

• Collaboration on academic knowledge/ R&D/ personnel training, focusing on solar power between King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Banpu Public Company Limited, together with Techen Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited.
• Partnership collaboration for solar power investment in Thailand between Banpu Public Company Limited and Techen Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited.
• Partnership collaborations within the solar power management business between Huawei Technologies Company Limited and Techen Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Komsan Maleesee, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang said about this collaboration for solar power research and development projects that: “Our institute has a vision to become a leader in research, preservation and development in the renewable energy fields. With our dedicated and able personnel resources, we believe Thai people have the potential to elevate energy technology to a global-standard. This MOU signing ceremony is a positive indication that shows that education institutions can cooperate with the private sector to support tangible development in renewable energy. I believe Thailand will continue to develop and will become the solar power hub in Asia.”

Ms. Somruedee Chaimongkol, Chief Executive Officer of Banpu Public Company Limited said: “Banpu, a pioneering Asian energy company for more than 30 years in energy supply and power generation, is honored to cooperate with experts in solar power from both an education institute and the private sector. This collaboration is in line with the Banpu’s strategy to chart a course of sustainable and balanced growth and would support Banpu to increase its equity-based power generating capacity to 4,300 MWe by the end of 2025, of which renewable energy will account for not less than 20 percent. It will also create value for downstream businesses in the company’s supply chain management and help promote environmentally-friendly renewable energy standards.”

Mr. Amorn Harnkam, General Manager of Techen Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited said: “Techen is a leader in the research and development of the energy management system, ‘Smart Energy System (SEMS)’. As a prominent company who put lots of investment into R&D to produce high-quality products for the world market, we have now set up a solar farm with an equity-based power generating capacity of 300 MWe in Chonburi, in response to the increasing demand for solar power in Thailand and Asia Pacific. Consequently, Techen and our business partners have been working with KMITL to set up a research center for renewable energy, which also has a learning and personnel development center. We set a goal for this to be a quality testing center to set higher standards of energy equipment used in the Thai and Asia business sectors.”

Mr. Eric Wang, Regional Director, Huawei Technologies Company Limited said: “Huawei has world-class systems and telecommunication technology and is the number one producer of mobile equipment and system infrastructure worldwide. We have invested heavily in solar power research and development with our energy management system called ‘Huawei FusionSolar’ that is hugely accurate and covers the entire globe.
