Banpu and Mahidol Invite High School and Vocational School Students Nationwide to Restore Urban Forests and Bring Biodiversity Back to Cities with The 19th Power Green Camp – “Urban Rewilding: Forests – Cities – Lives” Apply Today until March 31

Banpu Public Company Limited, a leading international versatile energy provider, together with Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, invites students of any major from high schools and vocational schools nationwide to join the 19th Power Green Camp. Carrying on the theme of “Urban Rewilding: Forests – Cities – Lives”, the camp will allow participants to explore the way to connect all living organisms to the forests – starting with understanding the importance of forests resources and biodiversity and learning how to conserve them, studying the connection between ‘woodland forests’ and ‘urban forests’ and leveraging this knowledge to design and develop a concept for urban forests areas in systematic approaches. These efforts not only contribute to the restoration of biodiversity, both plant and animal species, but also result in the creation of more urban green spaces, which are essential elements for a sustainable city that enhances the quality of life for city dwellers.

This year, 50 selected students will participate in a variety of theoretical and practical learning activities on systematic approaches in conserving forests resources and restoring the biodiversity of urban forests. The activities are scheduled to take place on April 28 to May 4, 2024, with highlights including:

  • Understand the importance of forests and biodiversity and the connection between forests, city and living organisms.
  • Get to know Thai herbs, essential plants in Biodiversity and Herbal Walk at Sirirukchat Natural Science Park, Mahidol University, Salaya
  • Participate in field learning activities at natural forest area in Saraburi Province
    • Explore the forests, study biological banks – the origins of urban forests.
    • Explore biodiversity, both plant and animal species.
    • Learn to interpret weather forecasts from trees.
    • Join reforestation activities to restore native trees.
    • Engage in forest bathing activity, connecting all five senses (sight, taste, smell, sound and touch) to the nature.
  • Participate in field learning activities at urban forest – Benchakitti Park, Bangkok
    • Learn how to design and develop urban forests with systematic approaches.
    • Explore the biodiversity of urban forests and their sustainable recovery processes.
    • Understand water and air quality indicators and how they affect the quality of life of city people.
    • Get to know “arborist”, or tree surgeon who plays an essential role in designing and developing urban forests.
    • Join tree planting activities to increase green spaces to the city.
    • Engage the ‘Make Friends with City Builder’ activity by inviting the new generation to engage in designing a sustainable city of their dreams.
