Banpu and Mahidol Spotlight One Health at Power Green Camp 21 Equipping Thai Youth with “Survival Skills” for Today’s Challenges

In a world where environmental challenges no longer affect nature alone but increasingly impact economies and human well-being, the concept of “One Health” has emerged as a critical global framework. It is increasingly being advanced to address emerging infectious diseases, pollution, and the escalating impacts of climate change. This clearly reflects that One Health is no longer a distant concept, but a “pressing real-world agenda” that today’s younger generation must understand and engage with. Recognizing this urgency, Banpu Public Company Limited, a versatile energy company, in collaboration with the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, launched the Power Green Camp 21 under the theme “One Health: The Science of Survival – Living Well, Staying Resilient.” The program aims to equip Thai youth with scientific thinking skills and empower them to tackle environmental challenges in a systematic and sustainable way. The camp was held from 27 April to 3 May 2026.

Mr. Rattapon Sukhunthee, Head of Corporate Communications at Banpu Public Company Limited, said, “Environmental challenges are long-term issues that will continue to impact all of us, particularly the younger generation. Banpu believes that sustainable solutions must begin with ‘Human Empowerment’. We are therefore committed to empowering youth with knowledge, critical thinking, and essential skills to navigate an increasingly complex world. They are the ones who will make decisions, solve problems, and care for our planet in the future. Our role is to ensure they are prepared and empowered to understand the world holistically, adapt to change, and apply scientific approaches to drive meaningful and lasting impact.”
In 2026, The Power Green Camp is designed to enable participants to develop an understanding of the interconnected nature of global systems, while applying scientific and data-driven approaches to analyze problems and design practical solutions. It also aims to build both knowledge capacity and a resilient mindset through the 5Cs Learning Journey, which includes:
- Connect – Connect the Dots: Understanding the One Health concept and the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health to gain a holistic view of today’s global challenges.
- Confront – Confront the Crisis: Exploring real-world situations through key issues such as emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, reducing epidemic risks and strengthening community health resilience, food-water-soil safety, climate change, and disaster management.
- Crack – Crack the Clue: Applying scientific methods, technology, and data analysis, such as air quality monitoring, water and soil testing, disease surveillance systems and systematic data-driven problem analysis.
- Create – Create the Cure: Integrating knowledge across science, environment, and health to develop practical solutions through hands-on activities and environmental science group projects
- Communicate – Communicate for Change: Enhancing communication and storytelling skills to share knowledge as content creator and drive positive change across schools, communities, and society.

Asst. Prof. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Deputy Dean for Education and International Relations at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, and Chairperson of the 21st Power Green Camp, said, “The challenges of the future cannot be solved by a single discipline. They require a new generation that understands the interconnected nature of global systems. From an educational perspective, it is not only about imparting knowledge, but about shaping the way young people think, enabling them to understand global risks, recognize the interconnections of issues, and adapt to change. Power Green Camp is therefore not just about environmental science education, but about equipping youth with knowledge, skills, and an integrated way of thinking to prepare them for the future.”

Jaidee – Ms. Kamonchanok Noinaeng from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Pathum Thani, Pathum Thani Province and Jane – Ms. Pariyakorn Chuphon from Ratchaborikanukroh School, Ratchaburi Province, a youth representative from the Power Green Camp 21 shared, “The Power Green Camp gave me more than I expected. I do not only learn about the environment but also about health, science, data analytics, and communication, which helped me understand how everything is interconnected. Most importantly, I had the chance to take real actions. Seeing many alumni returned to their schools and communities to create environmental projects inspired us to apply what I have learned and make a difference in my own community.”
“Banpu believes that the role of the business sector in driving sustainability goes beyond responsible business operations; it includes contributing to ‘Human Empowerment’, in line with our CSR theme, ‘Embracing Potential, Energizing People.’ We see people as the most important force in shaping the future of society. That is why we are committed to continuously creating learning opportunities and empowering the next generation. The Power Green Camp is therefore more than just a youth camp; it is a starting point for nurturing the ‘upstream pipeline of environmental talent’ in Thailand. By empowering young people with knowledge, skills, and a strong sense of responsibility toward society and the environment, we aim to empower them to become key drivers of the country’s sustainable future.” Mr. Rattapon concluded.
