Banpu Announces Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford Carbon Capture and Sequestration Projects by BKV, Strengthening Its U.S. Closed-Loop Gas Business

- Announces the commercial operation (COD) of two Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) projects, Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford, in the U.S., developed and operated by BKV.
- Expands Banpu Group’s U.S. Closed-Loop Gas business and support its target of achieving 5 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year by 2028, strengthening the energy value chain and advancing the transition to a lower-carbon future.
Banpu Public Company Limited, a leading versatile energy company, announced that BKV Corporation, its majority-owned energy company in the U.S., has achieved commercial operation (COD) of two Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) projects, Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford, in Texas, the U.S. Developed and operated by BKV, the projects represent another significant milestone in expanding Banpu Group’s U.S. Closed-Loop Gas business, which integrates natural gas, power generation, and CCS to enable the production of Carbon-Sequestered Gas (CSG). The integrated business supports growing energy demand while advancing the transition toward a lower-carbon energy system.
Mr. Sinon Vongkusolkit, Chief Executive Officer of Banpu Public Company Limited, said, “The commercial operation of the Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford projects reinforces the successful execution of our U.S. Closed-Loop Gas growth strategy while strengthening Banpu Group’s decarbonization efforts. By leveraging our integrated business platform and incorporating CCS into our existing assets and infrastructure, we are enhancing our ability to create long-term value while demonstrating our capability to develop and operate commercial-scale CCS projects.”

The Cotton Cove project was jointly developed by BKV and Banpu Power US. The facility captures and sequesters CO2 emissions in deep geologic formations and is expected to sequester an average of approximately 32,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year over its operational lifespan. Meanwhile, the Eagle Ford project, developed under a joint venture between BKV and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in collaboration with a leading diversified midstream energy company, acquires CO2 from a natural gas processing plant, then compresses and transports it to an injection well at an adjacent site, where it is permanently sequestered underground. The facility will sequester approximately 90,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year. Both projects have received approvals from the relevant U.S. regulatory authorities.
The commercial operation of Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford follows the successful operation of Barnett Zero, BKV’s first commercial-scale CCS project. With these additions, BKV now has three commercial-scale CCS projects in operation in the U.S, further advancing Banpu Group’s U.S. Closed-Loop Gas business. Through its investment in BKV, Banpu continues to expand its CCS portfolio to achieve its target of 1.5 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year by 2028. This milestone reflects Banpu’s long-term growth strategy and commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while delivering sustainable, long-term value to stakeholders and reinforcing its role in advancing a sustainable energy future responsibly.
