“an industry will be strong only when it is developed in tandem with social and environmental responsibility”.

Thailand

Banpu’s social responsibility programs in Thailand are focused on community development with regard to vocational skills, education, youth, and the environment. Various forms of “learning” are adopted to drive our CSR programs, as we believe that “learning” leads to sustainable development and positive change. Among these CSR programs are:

The “ITM Do by Heart” brand has been adopted by PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITM) – a subsidiary of BANPU in Indonesia and ITM coal mines in Kalimantan – as a basis for the implementation of their community development activities.
‘ITM for Education’ is ITM’s main corporate-level CSR program, focusing on education and learning for children and young people. The program was initiated in 2008 under the theme “Spreading Knowledge, Achieving Dreams”. The three sub-programs: ‘Mining for Children’, ‘Smart Teaching’ and ‘Volunteer Action’ specifically targeted school children, teachers and educational volunteers.

China

BANPU Investment (China) Ltd. (BIC), a Chinese subsidiary of BANPU, also emphasizes corporate social responsibility while developing its business in line with China’s economic growth. BIC not only adheres to its main policy in providing support and assistance to communities around its coal mines and power plants, it has also implemented CSR activities under the ‘BIC Do by Heart’ brand (For more details, visit http://www.banpu.com.cn/CSR_CSR.html).
