In Thailand, Banpu social responsibility programs have focused on community development, career
development, education, environment and youth.

For more than two decades, Banpu has established a good working relationship with the people it has worked with and committed to being a good neighbor as well as contributed to the community in which it operates. The Community Development Plan has been developed for each operation to fulfilling communities’ needs and expectations. The Company believes that it is necessary to identify concerns early, and to take these into account in planning and developing projects. Banpu has established a relationship among neighbors which should increase understanding and trust.

Banpu Village: The living proof of our social responsibility
Banpu Village perfectly reflects our belief that “an industry will be strong only when it is developed in tandem with social and environmental responsibility.” The Banpu Village Development Project within the area of Nong Pak Bung, Lamphun Province, Thailand, was instigated following the relocation of villagers in Banpu Village form their original homes situated in the central mining area expropriated by Department of Energy Development and Promotion. Banpu went in as a mining sub-contractor. The Company’s responsibility extends to paying compensation for both the costs of land and buildings, providing alternative housing and plots of land in addition to that provided by the Government, and providing major infrastructure and utilities for the village such as water, electricity, bridges and roads within the village.
