BLCP Power Limited (‘BLCP’) was established in 1995
after a Banpu-led consortium was selected by EGAT
to build a 2x717 MW coal-fired power plant at Map
Ta Phut.
In 1997 BLCP signed a Power Purchase Agreement
(‘PPA’) with EGAT for a 1,434 MW coal-fired power
plant.
Banpu currently holds a 50% shareholding in
BLCP, with its partner, CLP Power (BLCP) Limited,
holding the other 50%. CLP sold its 50% stake to Electricity Generating Public Company Limited in
the end of October 2006.
In August 2003 BLCP closed its financing arrangements including
finance worth THB 44 billion from Thai
and international financial institutions. The first draw-down
on the loans was made in September 2003.
The construction of BLCP commenced in July
2003 when its contractor, Mitsubishi commenced work.
The construction of Unit 1 and Unit 2 is complete and
operation was commenced in October 2006 and in
February
2007, respectively.
