Mining
Method
Jorong is an open pit mine with a conventional
truck and shovel operation. The main crushing plant is
approximately 18 kilometers
from the mine pits, and processes coal at a rate
of 800 tonnes per hour, or up to 3.5 million tonnes
per year. The plant’s stockpile capacity is 100,000
tonnes for ROM coal and 300,000 tonnes for finished
coal. A second crushing plant operates at 160
tonnes per hour to supply coal to a local power
station.
Transportation
From plant to overseas vessel, coal is loaded
onto barges of 5,000 - 8,000 tonnes by conveyor.
Loading capacity is 1,200 tonnes per hour. Barging
coal to transhipment is very competitive. At transhipment,
18 kilometers from the loading terminal, Panamax
vessel can be accommodated and a floating crane
is under way to accommodate gearless Panamax.
Markets
Jorong coal has very low sulphur content and is
most suitable for use in power and industrial
plants.
It has managed to secure some of its coal through
long-term coal supply contracts with domestic
power and industrial utility providers, as well
as customers in other countries in Asia and Europe.
